Interior Home Design – More Bedroom Ideas

In order to stay focused, one should prepare an outline of exactly what the bedroom design will entail. That’s why a good bedroom design is one which creates an environment that is relaxing. Another easier and less expensive method to come up with a bedroom design is to plan it around a coordinated bedding set. This is he best method because it is easier to match color to fabric than fabric to color.

Furniture

A teen bedroom serves different purposes, as this is a place wherein he or she not only sleeps but also entertains friends, studies and relaxes. So the furniture should be bought keeping in mind the arrangement and storage space, according to the requirements of the teenagers. Natural loom woven furniture with a solid aluminum, hardwood or steel frame is preferred because of its intricate and delicate exterior finish and strong internal frame.

Bedroom wicker furniture should be prevented from coming into contact with water. The bedroom is a person’s private haven in the home, a place where one relaxes after a day’s work. Custom bedroom furniture can undoubtedly add color to the dream. Chests of drawers provide a further storage option and come in the form of tall-boys and standard three-door varieties.

Space

If the room is also to relax and work in, a larger space is needed. If your bedroom space is small, a partition can make the room seem larger and give you room for dressing. The floor can also be covered with multi-colored rugs and cushions in a variety of shape and sizes for extra comfort and warmth.

Since a child owns lots of toys and books, enough space should be provided for these things, which can go above the study table. Nightstands or side tables should be on either side of the bed for books, medications and telephone. A dressing table comes in handy for women, and dressers with lots of storage space are ideal. Ample closet space is important, as are mirrors and wall decor. Full length mirrors are important for checking out your apparel.

Another way that you can double the closet space is to use hanging racks or double up on the rods. If your bedroom feels chaotic, you may not sleep well because it will keep you awake trying to figure out how to eliminate the clutter.

Window

If the window is on the sunny side, it is better to complement light curtains with thick ones, small screen rollers or venetian blinds. The ideal variant is curtains of medium thickness that disperse intense daylight and soften light contrasts.

Decoration

If you are having difficulty with the decorations you can ask for help from family and/or friends. Researching magazines that specialize in interior decoration is also a good idea and better than spending money to hire an interior decorator. Bedroom decoration is not dictated by conventional home decorating styles or even by expert interior decorators. It is accomplished by your personal preference and to make it a relaxing environment separate from the rest of the home.

Interior Home Design – Window Treatments

Curtains are a fast way to bring new life and color to any room, and now home decorators can create them more quickly and easily than ever. One clever example: simply clip an attractive tablecloth or tea towel onto a rod. Curtains and drapes will give you the more traditional window covering that you can combine with window shades and blinds.

Choosing a great window treatment idea can be a daunting task if you’re not sure where to start.

Measure each window separately and record the measurements on paper. Be sure to check all measurements twice before you purchase a new window treatment. Measuring and installation is available in the Brooklyn, NY area. Measure from the point you’ll hang the shade to the point where you want it to drop. Add an extra two inches to the top portion of the window frame to allow for mounting brackets.

There are many types of window treatments to choose from. Aside from the standard curtains and drapes here are: wood blinds, pleated shades, cellular shades, plantation shutters, aluminum mini blinds, and vertical blinds are only a few of the many options available.

Matchstick and bamboo blinds can be found at many imports stores or on the Internet. Wooden vertical blinds offer a vast choice of different natural and stained colors. The lightweight woods which offer paler colors such as ash and beech can create a warming and inviting atmosphere, for a more contemporary and dramatic effect dark woods such as dark oak and rowan are very striking. Don’t forget the interior wood shutters. These give a country styled appearance to a home and kitchen. They may be painted in any color that one desires.

Wood, for example, is warm and rich and works well in home offices. Deciding on what type of blind to use in each room can be done with your own creativity or you can hire an interior designer who can offer more helpful advice.

Wood blinds can be cleaned with a cleaner suited for wood surfaces. Use water sparingly, however, as you don’t want to damage the wood. Wood shutters are charming and substantial; those that cover only the bottom half of the window protect privacy but let in light, so you’ll want to add roller shades or Roman shades on top. Gathered Roman shades, handsome even in simple canvas, look wonderful in a circus stripe. Shades are similar to blinds, but instead of slats, they consist of fabric.

Choosing the right kind of window treatment for your home can get very overwhelming and confusing. You should work from the design style in the room you are decorating and choose a treatment that complements the design. Since most curtains and drapes are simply vertical in design; these can work in any décor. You just have to choose a color that fits and that is done by finding the predominant color and matching it (if there is not a lot of this color) or complementing it to avoid oversaturating the predominant color.

A fabric store is the best place to start; so bring a sample of the predominant color with you.

Interior Home Design – Sell Your House With Home Staging

Home staging is the proven way to sell your house quicker and at a better price…even in today’s poor market. Home staging makes your house more competitive by presenting the house as “ready-to-move-in” to prospective buyer’s. And; home staging can be a way to get more organized and de-cluttered. This applies to both inside and out of the home.

Staging can be simple or more work and could require the help of a professional home stager. But; in some cases you can do it yourself if it is a simple project.

The first step is to look around each room. Bring a note pad with you if you are serious about doing this. Make notes about any problem items; such as broken doors, light switches. Yes; the ‘honey do’ type list, but it gets much more detailed as you go.

Now look inside the closets. Yes; buyers look in closets to see if there is enough room. Mark in your pad whether the closet is neat or packed and needs some thinning out.

Bathroom is the next stop. Any broken tiles, dripping faucets, etc? Also is there any areas that need to really be cleaned? Look at this as though you were buying.

The kitchen is an important area. Is it cluttered with items all over the counters? Are the cabinets messy and over flowing? Clear out the items you don’t use on a regular basis. Store them where you can get to them; but not clutter a cabinet in doing so.

Look around the living and dining rooms. Clean up as much clutter and items you don’t use daily. Clean out he display case of any items that are not “display casable”.

The garage is another place that gets cluttered very quickly. If you get a hold on it before it gets too cluttered you will be ahead of the game. If you are beyond that you may want to do a little at a time to make it easier on yourself. A cluttered garage can create an issue for buyers. You want to have the garage clear so they can determine what vehicle(s) will fit and how much room they have for their belongings.

Curb appeal is just as it sounds. An appeal of your house from the curb view. What do you see when you look at your house from the curb? Peeling pain, a broken mailbox, dead plants, etc? You will be surprised at how different the house will look once you make the effort to clean up the yard. Take a drive past your house and see what needs to be changed or repaired. And; don’t forget the back yard. This is a particular area where buyer’s like to see how they will use it – especially if they have children. So this area needs a special cleaning.

Staging is just making your home more presentable to yourself and/or prospective buyers. To make it easier on yourself; just make a list of the items that need to be fixed, repaired or cleaned and do it a little at a time.

Ask yourself this question: Would you buy a house that needed a lot of work; unless you were a handyman?

Interior Home Design – Decorating Your Foyer

Before going into the foyer you should paint the outside of the entry door an inviting color. Why? Because it is the first thing people see when approaching your home and a lifeless door is not inviting anyone to enter. The color you use will depend upon the color of your home, but red has been used and is very popular.

This foyer is probably one of the most neglected areas of the home; yet it is the first room a visitor sees when entering your home. This is where visitors get the first impression of the rest of your home; so it should be nicely decorated and give a great image of your home. So what can you do to make it more presentable? That depends upon the size of the foyer.

If you have a large area you can use it as an art gallery to show you favorite pieces to all who enter. Perhaps you may want to put a chair in the corner, so someone entering can sit and remove the wet boots or just to relax for a moment.

But, what if you have a small foyer like most of us? Well, how about hanging a wall mirror or even a full length one. The mirror will make the area look larger. You could also hang one large picture or a few smaller ones. This gives the area interest and creates a focal point.

A dark entry can create a challenge for lighting. Use a fixture or chandelier that allows for brighter bulb wattage. Many fixtures only allow for 60 watts and in some areas that is not enough lighting. If you need even more lighting a mirror will reflect the existing light very nicely.

Of course, color is very important. It should reflect the preference you use in the rest of your home. Choose colors that make you feel good when you look at them in the store; but remember that the color will look different in your home and under your lighting. You want a color that will react nicely with you when you walk through the entry door into your foyer.

You can use a small table and add some pictures to accessorize the foyer or use it to hold keys, etc., but be sure the container is very decorative and doesn’t make it look like a mess of keys. And a nice plant and stand will bring the outdoors indoor.

Vignettes can also be created. These are miniature (in size not scale) scenes that depict areas or scenes you have seen and really liked; but can’t have because it is impractical. What do I mean? I designed an entry vignette with a garden bench, silk tree and potted flowers. I even added a small silk bird in the tree and some butterflies on the flowers. This was a condo project and my client loves gardens, but they don’t exist in condo developments.

Wall shelves are another way of decorating the foyer. You can display some of your favorite collectibles or even pictures of the family and friends. But don’t overdue the amount of items and place several together instead of spreading them all apart to take up space. Look through some decorating books for ideas.

Be creative with the foyer decorating and remember, it is the first room people see when entering your home!
